| Hi, I'm completing past distributions, and MySF is planning to post 53¢ to 1999:Asset Suspense - I don't understand why. Can you help me to understand? For CEU, I have entered two distributions during the year for a total of $885.97. The Tax Statement from the fund shows a total of $885.97 as Tax Deferred/Return of Capital. When I enter this amount in the "Tax Deferred Amount:" field of the Provide Distribution Details dialog, and choose Save, I am presented with the following confirmation dialog (which baffles me). Continue with the following transaction? DR 1151 - AA0266: CEU @ 29/10/2008 $736.58 DR 1999: Asset Suspense -$0.53 CR 1151 - AA0184: CEU @ 29/08/2006 $236.25 CR 1151 - AA0190: CEU @ 19/10/2006 $39.53 CR 1151 - AA0192: CEU @ 24/11/2006 $6.14 CR 1151 - AA0291: CEU @ 14/02/2007 $243.08 CR 1151 - AA0208: CEU @ 30/05/2007 $11.55 CR 1151 - AA0224: CEU @ 18/09/2007 $11.02 CR 1151 - AA0235: CEU @ 20/12/2007 $158.55 CR 1151 - AA0247: CEU @ 05/05/2008 $29.93 This appears to equate to one of the two partial distributions. If I say yes, the second one is not detailed but overall, I end up with ($0.79) in 1999: Asset Suspense. I can partially explain it to myself as "rounding handling" but would have thought that with only 8 parcels, any rounding would need to fall between -$0.07 and +$0.07 so it's more than 10 times what my expectation would be (although still hardly material)!? So my questions are a) will this $0.79 ever get "consumed" or allocated elsewhere? b) where? c) when? (year end processing?) Cheers, TonyG

Hello,
It appears that this $0.53 line is posted in instances where the total Credits posted to record the drop in cost base (from tax deferred income) does not equal the amount of the Debit posted to the new asset's account.
We will investigate this further as it is likely to be a rounding related item.
In the meantime, please move this -$0.53 amount to the asset's account by processing the following transaction:
DR 1999: Asset suspense $0.53
CR 1151-AA0266 CEU @ 29/10/08 $0.53
Please note that the transaction above uses positive 0.53
Please repeat the same process for the other completed reinvestments.
After processing the transactions you should find that the asset suspense account has a balance of 0.00
Please go to the Asset Utilities > View and Edit Asset cost base screen and list all of the assets in the Shares asset class. Scroll down to CEU @ 29/10/08 and you should find that the Suggested Cost base is shown in blue. This means that the cost base implied by the balance of the asset's account is different from the cost base held in the asset record. Click on Update Asset Cost base and the software will change the cost base of the asset so that it matches that implied by the balance of the account. Please repeat this for other reinvestments affected.
Please let us know if this helps.
Thank you,
MySF

| Hi, Thanks. That's fixed it. I did find a problem with the Update Asset Cost Base. I wasn't able to update more than about two or three in a session without MySF crashing out (i.e. closing itself down and giving a Vista error dialog asking me to close the program or report the problem and close the program. What I'm old enough to still call a GPF) It didn't seem related to a particular quantity of refreshes or a particular set of data. With perseverance and exiting completely and restarting MySF after each update, I was eventually able to update all of my items. (Possibly Saving the Fund after each update would have achieved the same result, but I didn't think of that until after). I suspect either a memory leak in the build of that screen, or a memory protection fault. It does seem un-necessary for the whole screen to refresh when I have only modified one line. I'm using MySF 9.0.4 on Dual Processor Vista SP2 w/ 2Gb and plenty of disk - i.e. no shortage of machine resource Regards, TonyG

Hi Tony,
We will investigate this screen and look at refreshing only the line that's updated, not the entire screen.
If it is possible to do so we will include the fix in a future update.
Thanks for letting us know of this issue.
Regards,
MySF
