Hi

I bought some shares in a SPP - it was $5,000 worth of 3c shares - which worked out to be 166,677 units

Trouble is that this works out to be $5,000.01 - but they rounded it down to $5,000.

How do  code this ?

thanks

Hi,

Please add the units at $0.029998 each, which works out to $4,999.98 and add $0.02 as a brokerage fee. This will increase the capitalised cost for this parcel to $5,000.00.

Regards,

Hi,

Just out of interest, could you just leave the shares costs at 3c and put in a brokerage fee of -$0.01 to round the total to $5,000 - or will MySF not allow the negative 1c brokerage.

Regards

Hi,

I should point out that the answer and this post were both written under the assumption that there was a typo in the original post. The type was likely to be that the 166,677 should have been 166,667 since 166,677 x 0.03 = 5000.31 but 166,667 x 0.03 = 5000.01.

In answer to your question, yes, you can enter a negative brokerage. The validation rules for this field were changed a while back to allow just such an adjustment.

However, the net effect will be the same because the cost base per unit stored agains the asset will be the same:
5,000 / 166,667 = 0.02999994000011999976000047999904
This number is of course never shown in its full form and is normally rounded to 0.03 in reports.

Regards,

MySF
