This update contains a fix to a small but annoying bug which caused the year end process to fail in some cases.

The latest update to MySF Manager, update 5.0.2, is now available.

[b]Additional Functionality[/b][/u]

We are excited to present an important new feature which that helps MySF Manager users get the best possible results from asset sales.

Sales processing in MySF Manager has always included specific-lot accounting, allowing users to allocate units within a sale that results in higher or lower amounts of taxable capital gains than would result from an 'average cost' approach. This has meant that users were able to take a more active role in determining paper gain / loss amounts for a given level of income and thereby improve performance.
This feature has now been automated with the following options (shown as links on the right hand side of the sale screen):

[b]- Average Cost[/b]
Click on this link to show an allocation that would result in the same capital gain calculation as what you would get when using an 'average cost' system.

[b]- FIFO[/b]
Click on this link to show an allocation that disposes of units on a first-in-first-out (FIFO) basis.
[b]
- LIFO[/b]
Click on this link to show an allocation that disposes of units on a last-in-first-out (LIFO) basis.

[b]- Highest Taxable[/b]
Click on this link to show an allocation of units within the sale that aims to maximize the taxable gain within the sale. This may be helpful if you have losses that you can use to offset against this sale.

[b]- Lowest Taxable[/b]
Click on this link to show an allocation of units within the sale that aims to minimize the taxable gain within the sale. Conversely, this also means that the system will attempt to maximize the loss if it can. This may be helpful if you would like to ensure that there is minimal gain and maximum loss from this sale.

[u]Warning and Disclaimer:[/u]
MySF Manager does not recommend or discourage the use of any of the above allocation approaches. Some or all of these approaches may not be permitted in your location and/or for your fund. Additionally, these allocations may not be optimal for the fund as they do not consider anything outside of details of the sale at hand, such as the financial situation and goals of the portfolio and its investors. Please ensure that you check with the ATO about whether or not the various allocations are permitted; and check with a suitably accredited finance professional about whether or not the allocation is optimal for the portfolio. If you are unsure about any of this then please do not use the automated allocations shown.

[u][b]Bugs fixed[/b][/u]
* Member allocation table's accounts are refreshed at the time of update to ensure that concessional, non-concessional and excessive accounts are correctly taken into account when determining a split of profits.
* Failure lists of the revaluation screen can now be exported so that any manual corrections or revaluations can take place with less effort.
* (this was not really a bug) Opening Balances screen modified to ensure that no mistaken entries get posted to potential parent accounts for asset classes.

Future improvements planned for MySF Manager include items that help users gain even better control of their investments and be more informed about their performance. Functions which will be added in future updates include:
- time weighted return calculations, an industry standard
- dollar weighted (IRR) return calculations.
- additional benchmarking of subsets of assets based on asset class, allocation category, advisor, fund manager

The latest update to MySF Manager, update 5.0.0, is now available.

[u][b]IMPORTANT![/b] BEFORE INSTALLING UPDATE[/u] please ensure that you create a backup of your fund through Housekeeping > Create Backup.

This update includes major additional functionality to deliver better control of a greater range of investments.

The update also fixes some bugs that have been identified and includes minor changes to improve usability. The list of changes is shown below.

Support for international investments
* data now supplied not just from the ASX, but also an additional 49 exchanges.
* technical analysis feature now receives data from 50 exchanges

Support for foreign currencies
* foreign exchange calculator built into the software (up to 6 months historical data)
* foreign exchange data feed used automatically to convert all data to AUD when revaluing international investments (up to 6 months historical data)
* FX calculator accessible by pressing Ctrl + F when you have any currency field selected, or by clicking on the 'Foreign Exchange Calculator' link shown at the bottom of several screens

Usability improvements
* user-name and password screen now accepts enter key press instead of requiring you to click on OK
* tab orders revised on several screens

*Asset reports potential grouping and subtotal calculation issues fixed by making it more tolerant of slight differences in asset code entry
*Some error messages revised to be more informative and assist self-help

ii) Each line entered is treated as a single asset (or parcel of assets) and the functions performed are the same as when adding the asset through the Add / Manage Financial Assets screen. This screen enables you to view and modify the cost base of financial assets in your fund. The screen will list all current (unsold) financial assets and their current cost base as per the asset record. Users can elect to update the cost base of the asset as held in the asset record where these numbers do not match. The cost base may be updated to the amount implied by the accounts or to another amount entered into that field.[u]Notes:[/u]

Update delay

Hi,

It was the intention of MySF to release an update containing all of the changes to comply with legislative changes. Unfortunately repeated delays have occurred as we continue to receive additional clarifying information about some of the finer points of these changes.

Unfortunately these delays have affected the release date of other changes as well.

As a result we have decided to release a minor update containing mostly bug fixes and small changes on Wednesday 7th November. The version number for this update will be 3.2.0

This update will be followed by others that will include
- Changes for new superannuation rules, including concessional, non-concessional and excessive contributions etc.
- Completely revised year end process, with reversible year end rollovers
- "Quick Entry" screens that enable you to add repeat purchases, dividends and distributions (including reinvestments) with far less data entry and in less time than ever before.

Update from 2.0.10 to 3.1.3

Hi,

I have downloaded update_313.exe but I'm having problem installing it. When I run it the installer pops up a "Browse for Folder" dialog with the message "Please locate your original setup sources to continue operation". I have pointed it to my original CD; to the directory where the update file is; to the installation directory -it still returns back to the original dialog box. What exactly does it want.

The latest update to MySF Manager, update 3.1.0, has been released.

This update builds on 3.0.0 with a couple of extra reports, some adjustments to usability (in revaluations) and a couple of bugs fixes.

[u][b]Update 3.0.0 [/b][/u]included some of the biggest ever changes since MySF Manager was released:

[b]Dashboard style main menu, with charts showing a summary of important data[/b]
The navigation of the classic menu system has been retained, but you will now see asset allocations, market value of assets as well as income and expenses analysis charts loaded immediately at start-up. This feature was added following customer requests for such summaries.

[b]New revaluations screen with free data[/b]
Revaluations have been overhauled and linked in to an automated, free data service. This means that you will be able to revalue all listed assets for every day of a whole year at the click of a button. You will no longer need to download or convert existing stockmarket data.

[b]New income and expense analysis features[/b]
These two new features enable you to perform a graphical analysis of your main sources of income and main causes of expense. Results can be filtered by transaction type or account. You can run this analysis for the whole fund or any subset of assets.

[b]New market value charts, with benchmarking capabilities[/b]
This feature is also found under the analysis section of the software and enables you to chart the changes in the market value of the assets that you own. You also have the option to benchmark that performance against any single ASX listed stock or even the All Ords.

[b]Dividend and distribution completion screen added[/b]
This feature enables MySF Manager users to record dividends or distributions without providing the breakdown of components (tax deferred income, interest etc.) by tagging them for completion later. Details of the components can be entered later into a screen which will automatically adjust and complete previous dividends and distributions.

[b]Simplified restore procedure for backups[/b]
This used to be a manual process of finding backups and copying files. From version 3.0.0 users will be able to select a backup which they wish to restore and MySF Manager will do the rest.

[b]Lots of other, smaller changes and of course some bug fixes[/b]
An example of one the smaller changes made was an enhancement of the date entry field. In addition to being able to enter the date manually, you can now right click on the field and select from a range of commonly used values or open a calendar to select from there.

We have also changed to .NET 2 technology and upgraded all charting and reporting components. We believe this will make the software more attractive and user friendly as well as help to eliminate previous reporting problems.

MySF 3.0.0 is now available

Hi,

The latest major update to MySF Manager, version 3.0.0, has been released.

This update delivers the biggest changes ever included in a single update for MySF Manager since the software was released.

Added new functionality includes:

[b]Dashboard style main menu, with charts showing a summary of important data[/b]
The navigation of the classic menu system has been retained, but you will now see asset allocations, market value of assets as well as income and expenses analysis charts loaded immediately at start-up. This feature was added following customer requests for such summaries.

[b]New revaluations screen with free data[/b]
Revaluations have been overhauled and linked in to an automated, free data service. This means that you will be able to revalue all listed assets for every day of a whole year at the click of a button. You will no longer need to download or convert existing stockmarket data.

[b]New income and expense analysis features[/b]
These two new features enable you to perform a graphical analysis of your main sources of income and main causes of expense. Results can be filtered by transaction type or account. You can run this analysis for the whole fund or any subset of assets.

[b]New market value charts, with benchmarking capabilities[/b]
This feature is also found under the analysis section of the software and enables you to chart the changes in the market value of the assets that you own. You also have the option to benchmark that performance against any single ASX listed stock or even the All Ords.

[b]Dividend and distribution completion screen added[/b]
This feature enables MySF Manager users to record dividends or distributions without providing the breakdown of components (tax deferred income, interest etc.) by tagging them for completion later. Details of the components can be entered later into a screen which will automatically adjust and complete previous dividends and distributions.

[b]Simplified restore procedure for backups[/b]
This used to be a manual process of finding backups and copying files. From version 3.0.0 users will be able to select a backup which they wish to restore and MySF Manager will do the rest.

[b]Lots of other, smaller changes and of course some bug fixes[/b]
An example of one the smaller changes made was an enhancement of the date entry field. In addition to being able to enter the date manually, you can now right click on the field and select from a range of commonly used values or open a calendar to select from there.

We have also changed to .NET 2 technology and upgraded all charting and reporting components. We believe this will make the software more attractive and user friendly as well as help to eliminate previous reporting problems.

Profit and Loss Statement

Will the new Release of the MySF software ensure that Capital Losses does not reduce the Income from Dividends etc. as is currently the case when viewing the Profit and Loss Statement.

Predefined Transaction Manager

Can you explain why a line item defined in the above does not appear when you go to process the transaction? It is annoying, as you initially define it, then when you go to record it, you have to re-enter it as a new line item. Also an edit function would be handy on predefined and regular transactions, as over time such things as the amount may change or you may have forgotten to enter some detail initially. At the moment you have to cancel it and do the whole transaction again, or have I missed something?

Posting MCS Payment

Hi There,I am completing my accounts for the 0405 year during which I made a MCS payment relating to the 0304 financial year. (which had not been accrued as part of the 0304 year end).I was wondering what the best way to approach this entry would be. Specifically I'm not sure if I should be debiting account 5655 Members Expenses OR 3625 - Members Expenses.Could you please advise of your suggested treatment. Also could you explain the difference between the two accounts above.ThanksChris

Difficulty with mastertrusts

Before starting up my own SF, I have had assets deposited with a "Portfolio Service" with funds lodged via the service into 8 different investment funds e.g. Platinum etc. At the end of the finacial year they have provided a total summary Tax Statement with a "Global" proforma statement including answers to Questions 11-19 in the tax pack and details of the various components of Australian, Foreign income, capital gains components etc. Apparently ideal for the accountant but how do I incorporate this into MYSF. The "Cash Account" details available on the Portfolio Service website have allowed me to see each deposit as distributions were deposited for the various investments, but the final summary does not allow a discrete breakdown to fulfil the MYSF pages.The various investments have now been transfered into my SF directly as I have been disillusioned with the portfolio service and the associated costs. From next year this should not be a problem as I will be advised by each fund directly.In the interim how do I rollover 2004-2005 without continuing with a invalid net figure in the SF next year. Can adjustments be made after my accountant provides the final audited figures?

Version 1.4.2 Functionality

Balance Sheet - Using Current ValueSo you can see the total value of the Fund at any date we have included the ability to use revalued amounts in the Balance Sheet report. The 'As At" date will be used to search for the value of assets equal to or immediately before the date chosen.2. Reverse Sales and Edit Sales recordsIn the Sales Report users can now edit the sales record or reverse the specific sale. This will reinstate the asset, however the Journals need to be reversed using the Transaction Reporter - Reverse Journal Function.3. Share Feed Data ConverterA number of Members already have a data feed for other software programs. Under utilities there is now an additional converter to allow conversion from any csv or txt based format. There is a standard template for conversion from Metastock to MySF.All known bugs through to 14 June are fixed.Users will be notified by email when the Update is availableRegards

Version 1.4.1 is now available for download

We are pleased to announce that Version 1.4.1 of MySF is now available for download. Please make sure you are connected to the internet and from the main menu of MySF click on Browse & Update. This is on the right hand side of the screen. The software will direct you to the download and ask you if you wish to open or Save. Select Save and save to anywhere on your on your hard drive (i.e. C:) The update is around 9 MB. Once the update is downloaded please exit MySF Manager, and using Windows Explorer locate the file and double click. The installer will then update the MySF Manager software. When you enter the software and select your fund (or the Sample Fund) for the first time it will update the fund with changes. It will also carry out an integrity check to ensure that all past transactions are in balance. Additional information on the integrity check is available in the MySF Forum under the New Release heading. Once you have updated you can select F1 for online help. Version 1.4.1 New Functionality

Version 1.4.1 will be available for download in May 2004. This note outlines the changes and enhancements included in the new version.A detailed document which outlines all of the changes in detail will be made available for download at the time of the release.Dividends & DistributionsChange 1When either a Dividend or Distribution Receipt type is chosen in the Cash Receipts screen a new pop up screen will now be displayed. The new screen allows for the entry of Witholding Tax and Unfranked amount. The journal entries will automatically be generated from the entry screen. In the initial version (1.4.0) the screen for Dividends was the same as the Distributions screen, but with a number of fields greyed out. This has been changed so that the Dividend screen only displays those field that can be entered. This will we hope be easier to post against.Change 2The second change for Dividends & Distributions is an additional report in the Report Tool under the Financial Reports Tab. The report frovides a summary of all Dividends and Distributions for a selected period.Change 3Users can now add the details into the Dividends & Distributions pop up screen through the Transaction Reporter at a later point after the transaction has been saved. This will be useful where no all information has been provided with the initial payment. This editing of the pop up screen will be reported through the new Dividend & Distribution Report, however it will not generate the Journal Entries. The Journals to correctly post any changes to the original transaction will need to be entered manually.ReportingThere are a number of changes to reporting across the system with version 1.4.1 The following is a list of the more significant changes.Transaction ReportThe Transaction report within the Report Tool now has a selection for all transactions in a consolidated report. We think this will be useful for Auditing and reconcilliation.Balance Sheet A Fix has been made to allow running of the Balance Sheet report even when no Physical Assets are defined in a specific Asset Class. A number of users reported this problem. Grouping together of LinesChanges have been made to all reports improving the grouping of headings and lines when the report is displayed over multiple pages.Members Position StatementThe Members Position Statement report displays Opening Balances as the first section of the report. Included in these opening balances are Equity accounts which summarise 'accumulated' income from sources such as Employer Contributions or Member Contributions. This is required in order to report on these amounts separately from the total accumulated balances for each member. We have made a change to the display on order to make it a little clearer that these items are Opening Balance Equity accounts.Asset ChangesPartial PaymentOn Physical Assets it is possible to enter a partial payment. There was a error detected on the calculation of GST on Costs associated with a partial payment. This has now been fixed.Cash Payment - Pension Payment TypeWhen a Cash Payment is made with a Pension Payment Type, the journal entry generated for PAYG tax is incorrect. This error is corrected in version 1.4.1Pension ModeChanges will be incorporated to allow the use of either Segregated Assets income, or an Actuarial percentage for the determination of income tax payable by the fund. This is needed when one member of the Fund is in Pension Mode and others are in Accumulation mode. Users will be able to choose which method to use. The impact is that when the Year End rollover is performed and one or more members are in Pension mode the Profit & Loss calculation will take into account the percentage of either the segregated assets income, or the Actuarial percentage. The fund willl only be liable for tax on that portion of income which is not attributed to paying the pension.We will notify all MySF Clients by email when version 1.4.1 is available for download.
